Payroll errors rarely begin at the final calculation. They usually begin earlier: incomplete employee data, unclear pay-item rules, late attendance corrections, inconsistent overtime approvals, or missing evidence. Payroll Compliance & Attendance Control Lab helps Malaysian employers design a practical control flow from source data to approved payroll output.
Across two hands-on days, participants map their current payroll cycle, identify high-risk hand-offs, test attendance and overtime records, review gross-to-net checkpoints, and build a reconciliation and approval pack. Exercises use realistic SME scenarios without requiring participants to disclose confidential employee data.
The course is suitable for teams that want fewer payroll corrections, clearer ownership, stronger monthly evidence and faster exception handling. Statutory rates and official procedures are checked against the latest KWSP, PERKESO, HASiL and JTKSM sources during delivery because requirements can change.
Participants leave with reusable control templates: a payroll calendar, input checklist, attendance exception log, reconciliation worksheet, approval matrix and 30-day improvement plan. This is training, not legal, tax or payroll-processing advice for a specific employer.

Learning outcomes

  • Map the end-to-end monthly payroll process and assign clear owners, cut-off dates and approval points.
  • Validate employee master data, recurring pay items and one-off inputs before payroll calculation.
  • Reconcile attendance, shift, leave, overtime and unpaid-leave records using a documented exception workflow.
  • Apply control checks to gross-to-net payroll, statutory deduction workflow, new joiners, leavers and adjustments.
  • Prepare a payroll reconciliation and approval pack with a traceable audit trail.
  • Create a 30-day payroll-control improvement plan for the participant’s organisation.

Who should attend

HR executives and managers; payroll and compensation staff; administration and finance personnel supporting payroll; SME owners; operations supervisors responsible for attendance approval; and team members preparing payroll inputs. Basic payroll exposure is helpful but not required. Participants should bring a laptop and a de-identified sample process or blank template, not live employee records.

What participants receive

  • Payroll cycle calendar and responsibility matrix
  • Employee/pay-item input control checklist
  • Attendance, leave and overtime exception log
  • Payroll reconciliation and approval worksheet
  • Payroll evidence-file index and monthly close checklist
  • Personal 30-day control improvement plan

FAQ

Is this course HRDC Claimable?
KTG is preparing/confirming the course registration. The page must not state that it is claimable until KTG verifies a valid approved status. Employer eligibility and claim approval remain subject to HRD Corp rules.
Does the course teach a specific payroll software?
No. The control principles and templates are software-neutral. Examples can be mapped to the participant’s existing system.
Will current EPF, SOCSO, EIS and PCB rules be covered?
The workflow and control points are covered, and official sources are checked during the session. Rates and procedures can change, so participants must verify current official guidance before processing payroll.
Do I need payroll experience?
Basic exposure helps, but the course starts with the monthly workflow and uses guided practical exercises.
Can we use our company’s payroll data?
Do not bring identifiable employee data. Use de-identified or blank templates. In-house clients may agree a secure data-handling scope separately.
What is the class size?
The public class opens with at least 8 paid participants and is capped at 24.
Can KTG run this course in-house?
Yes. KTG can tailor the case studies and control documents after a needs discussion. Ask for the in-house proposal and trainer availability.
What happens if the minimum number is not reached?
KTG will confirm the class status before the published cut-off. Participants may be offered a new date, a suitable small-group option, or a refund according to the published terms.
